Nels Cline is best known by his Clark Kent persona as the lead guitarist in Wilco. Cline is listed in Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists as there doesn’t seem to be any boundaries in which to explore and innovate. Post-Coltrane lineage reed player Larry Ochs is cofounder of the 41 year-old ROVA Saxophone Quartet – ground floor influencers in the language of that now-accepted ensemble formation. Detroit native and University Of Michigan faculty member Gerald Cleaver moved to the Lion’s Den of NYC’s jazz scene to carve out a reputation as a first call drummer. The improvisational nature of jazz is the basis of this trio, while not necessarily the nature of their protean sonic offerings.
