There’s the alternative fiction of the earthbound Machine Age and the low atmosphere skip of the Solid State Age merged with keyboard sampling…Her promotional photographs are silver gelatin analogs that slip out of and into the world via Dropbox, evoking a reorganization of the past much as the Kraftwerk iconography served Autobahn, Radioactivity, Trans Europe Express and Man Machine. Nels Cline is best known by his Clark Kent persona as the lead guitarist in Wilco. Cline is listed in Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists as there doesn’t seem to be any boundaries in which to explore and innovate. Post-Coltrane lineage reed player Larry Ochs is cofounder of the 41 year-old ROVA Saxophone Quartet – ground floor influencers in the language of that now-accepted ensemble formation. Detroit native and University Of Michigan faculty member Gerald Cleaver moved to the Lion’s Den of NYC’s jazz scene to carve out a reputation as a first call drummer. The improvisational nature of jazz is the basis of this trio, while not necessarily the nature of their protean sonic offerings. Continue reading
