Sensate vibrations merge with an Impressionistic tableau- no transposition needed. That’s our pitch for the Chris Dingman solo vibraphone recital at Timucua Arts. Shimmering composition in a sonorous and sympathetic live venue. The solo recital is a current focus for our guest.
Atlantic Center for the Arts Master Artist In Residence Nicole Mitchell presented her Outreach concert at Timucua Arts on July 8th, 2019. With her were Doug Mathews and Anthony Cole, and for the finale, her Associates from ACA Residency # 174 for a newly minted piece: Border Parade.
Nicole Mitchell is both an innovator as composer and instrumentalist. She’s also a creative artist with organizational chops, as former chairwoman of Chicago’s (and now New York’s) esteemed, Jedi-like Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) and, as of today- July 1st, the current William S. Dietrich II Endowed Chair in Jazz Studies at University Of Pittsburgh.
Scribe/podcaster Kyle Eagle does his hat trick/third Nels Cline interview for today’s Orlando Weekly. Eagle has the requisite brio to suggest a name for this trio with Larry Ochs and Gerald Cleaver.

Nels Cline is best known by his Clark Kent persona as the lead guitarist in Wilco. Cline is listed in Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists as there doesn’t seem to be any boundaries in which to explore and innovate. Post-Coltrane lineage reed player Larry Ochs is cofounder of the 41 year-old ROVA Saxophone Quartet – ground floor influencers in the language of that now-accepted ensemble formation. Detroit native and University Of Michigan faculty member Gerald Cleaver moved to the Lion’s Den of NYC’s jazz scene to carve out a reputation as a first call drummer. The improvisational nature of jazz is the basis of this trio, while not necessarily the nature of their protean sonic offerings.

Forty plus years after Negativland’s first salvos, Mark Hosler’s solo work still uses the unlike and in the case of his concert at Timucua, it’s disjunct electronic devices roughly creating the signal path of late 1960’s synthesis.
